What’s Next: A Year Home from the Race

It’s now been a year since I came home from the World Race.  It feels weird. Like its been forever and no time at all.

A lot has happened this past year. I returned to my job as a student minister, I met new friends and reconnected with old ones, I attended football games and went on vacations. Before I knew it, Thankgsgiving had rolled around and I had been in America for a year.

Processing the Race has been difficult. There have been days I have missed the constant community of believers, of people who had lived out that year of adventures along with me. I’ve missed the simplicity of living out of a backpack and of having to rely on God’s goodness for my every need. However, I have also enjoyed the comfort of sleeping in my own bed and being able to go places and do things without having to deal with the “buddy system.”

For a while now I have been asking God for direction for what’s next. When I think about what makes me happy, what makes me fall more in love with Jesus, I always come back to how I want to be a part of something that changes peoples’ lives. That gives them the opportunity to learn their identity, to form community and to gain new insight into cultures around the world.

To accomplish this, I feel God is calling me to be a Squad Leader for the World Race. I want to be able to lead other people like myself on the Race in hopes that they can experience the life change that I did on my own journey. The squad leaders that lead my squad spoke truth into me, pushed me to go deeper into my relationship with God and showed me what it meant to be a true servant. I was lucky to have them and want to be the same for future racers.

My Squad Leaders Alys and Andrew

In order to gain the skills to lead others well, this January I will move to Georgia to start a leadership program called CGA (Center for Global Action). CGA is a program run by Adventures in Missions and designed to provide leadership experience, discipleship and spiritual growth. CGA will provide the training and discipleship needed for me to be the best leader for future racers.

I can’t wait for this next season of my life. I can’t wait to see what God teaches me and where he takes me. I hope you will join me on this journey by following this blog and reading about what I am learning and doing in Georgia.

If you are able and willing to give it, I need financial support. It takes funds to be apart of CGA and I need $7,450 for food, housing and other living expenses. Any money you are willing to donate will help me toward that goal.
